| My name is Shirley Collins and I am an Aboriginal woman born in Mt Isa.
My Dad’s people are from Boulia in Western Queensland, where I am accepted as being part of the Pitta-Pitta People. I am still on my journey to find my Mother’s side, which I believe to be with the Eastern Arrente People of Central Australia.
My traditional name is Yum-ala, which in my Pitta-Pitta language means Eldest Sister. As the Eldest Sister, it is my role to share my culture and family traditions with others. I do this through the images, stories and traditions that I paint. |

See in my painting here, there’s an Aboriginal woman holding her brother’s and sister’s hand. That old girl is showing them young people the way, the proper way.
That’s what my business is about – an authentic Aboriginal cultural experience that helps people to better understand Indigenous Australia.
So come on, check out my deadly paintings, tourism gifts and cultural workshops. You’ll enjoy the images and stories you find here and make sure you share them with your family and friends.
